About the Park School

 

The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. Roles & Responsibilities

 

  • Support individual student planning and goal-setting
  • Provide short-term counseling to students
  • Refer students for long-term support as needed
  • Collaborate with families/teachers/ administrators/ community for student success
  • Advocate  for students at individual student support planning meetings and other student-focused meetings
  • Utilize data analysis to identify student issues, needs, and challenges
  • Deliver school counseling classroom lessons based on student success standards
  • Act  as a systems change agent to improve equity and access, achievement, and opportunities for all students
  • Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations

 

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree in school counseling
  • 2+ years of experience as a school counselor
  • Familiarity and/or expertise with the American School Counselor’s Association program standards are preferred
  • Working knowledge of school counseling models, methods, and resources
  • Ability to identify and respond to students’ needs
  • Excellent listening and problem-solving skills
  • Must be patient and compassionate
  • Knowledge of various methods to prevent or treat mental-health problems and other difficulties
  • Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults
  • Strong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments and other school-related documents
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in teaching and learning & experience in working in a culturally diverse community 
  • Motivation for and interest in professional development
  • Ability to think independently and along with  collaborate  in a team environment
  • ​​High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Maintain focus and adaptability  in an energetic and, at times, loud environment
  • The ability to effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflict with students and families in a timely manner
  • The ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet)
  • Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the school, such as Veracross, SchoolPass, Atlas etc. 

 

Physical Requirements

 

  • The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30 minute periods of time.
  • The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
  • The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas),  including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency. 
  • The ability to position oneself  (e.g.,  stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down) in order to support students. 
  • The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.
  • The ability to lift and hold 15  lbs overhead. 
  • The ability to occasionally  transport (e.g., move or drag)  25 lbs 
  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment
