Job Summary

Berkshire Country Day School, serving students in grades Preschool – Grade 8, seeks a versatile and dynamic educator to serve as a Permanent Floating Substitute Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. Reporting to the Associate Head of School, the Permanent Floating Substitute Teacher will cover classes for planned and unplanned absences, in all grades, as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy, and a firm grounding in best practices.

The successful candidate will join a close-knit teaching and learning community. A high degree of teamwork, collaboration, and communication are a must; a sense of humor is appreciated.

This is a full-time position for the regular academic year.

Position Responsibilities

Follow the instructional guide and class expectations outlined in teachers’ lesson plans when covering classes.

Contribute to a positive and safe learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.

Follow a schedule set by the Associate and Assistant Heads of School to support the School  on days that no additional coverage is needed. Potential assignments may include library, research, and planning duties.

Participate in events, assemblies, and celebrations.

Perform any other tasks assigned to the absent teacher on that day (lunch, recess, etc.)

Clean teaching area at the end of the day. Put all equipment and materials away.

Successful candidates will have

  • Teaching experience 
  • Understanding of child development and empathy for students
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in a dynamic school community 
  • Ability to work in a collegial and highly collaborative environment
  • A growth mindset, creative approach, and excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Training, demonstrated professional development, or certification in teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and diversity, equity, and inclusion work
  • Bachelor’s Degree
