Position Overview

Falmouth Academy seeks a thoughtful, engaging, and student-centered part-time French teacher to teach two sections of French beginning in September 2026. The ideal candidate will bring strong language proficiency, a love of French and Francophone cultures, and an ability to help students develop confidence as speakers, readers, writers, and listeners.

The successful candidate will be an educator who values both rigor and encouragement, understands the importance of relationships in adolescent learning, and is eager to contribute to a small school community where teachers know their students well.

Responsibilities

The part-time French teacher will:

  • Teach two sections of French, with course levels determined by student enrollment and program needs.
  • Design and deliver lessons that build proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
  • Incorporate French and Francophone cultures into the curriculum in meaningful and engaging ways.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages risk-taking, curiosity, and active participation.
  • Assess student progress regularly and provide clear, constructive feedback.
  • Communicate appropriately with students, families, advisors, and colleagues regarding student progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the language department and participate in relevant departmental work.
  • Support Falmouth Academy’s mission and contribute positively to the life of the school.

Qualifications

Strong candidates will have:

  • Advanced proficiency in French.
  • Experience teaching French at the middle school and/or high school level.
  • A bachelor’s degree in French, education, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with proficiency-based language instruction and current best practices in world language teaching.
  • Skill in creating inclusive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environments.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • A genuine interest in working with adolescents in a small, relational school setting.
