Music Teacher

Waldorf School at Moraine Farm is hiring an individual who has a strong background and experience in exposing students to the joy and appreciation of music through a variety of musical experiences, which include singing, moving to music, playing instruments, listening, and performing. The Music Teacher will create a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to advance his/her/their musical ability using current methodology, curricula, and materials. The position also includes the instruction of string instruments, violin, viola, and cello, music direction for the school’s mid-year concert, and other musical ensembles, including the planning and execution of a spring recital.

 

Music Teacher Duties and Responsibilities

●  Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of music and implement a robust vocal and instrumental music program for Elementary School students.

●  Demonstrate personal skills and creative talents in music, and serve as a role model by cultivating these talents.

●  Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment, and current research.

●  Establish and maintain standards of student control required to achieve effective participation in all activities in accordance with classroom management best practices and the School’s expectations.

●  Continue to develop and support the strings program for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students, including instruction and performance(s).

●  Provide and supervise opportunities for students to demonstrate, individually or in ensembles, the skills and talents developed in the music program. Opportunities include but are not limited to Open House, Winter Assembly, Grandfriends Day, etc. These opportunities may fall outside the normal workday for teachers, including evenings and weekends.

●  Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a small department, designing, planning, and supervising field trips, parent events, performances, Arts department presentations, and other actions that enhance classroom and experiential learning.

●  Be capable of working collaboratively with other teachers to integrate music into other content areas.

 

Essential Job Functions:

●  Must be able to manage musical instruments, supplies, equipment, tools, classrooms, and storage spaces. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

●  The ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively in order to meet deadlines.

●  The ability to speak and sing well and with confidence

●  Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.

Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors.

●  Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists,

etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional

materials, etc. using prescribed format(s).

●  Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must

be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.

●  Maintain in-depth knowledge and a continued interest in content, current music education

research, best practices, and professional growth.

●  Maintain a commitment to excellence and possess the ability to work independently and

collaboratively with flexibility and enthusiasm

●  Possess a strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a kind spirit

 

Position Details: This is a full-time salaried position. Benefits may include health insurance, ongoing professional development, and tuition remission for children.

 

We recognize there are many paths that may have prepared you for this experience, such as:

● Bachelor’s Degree
● 1 – 2 years of previous relevant classroom experience
● Teaching experience in a Waldorf school is preferred
● Have completed, or be willing to complete Waldorf Certification/Training

Our school, now in its 37th year, is a full member of AWSNA. We have approximately 80 children enrolled in Nursery through Grade 5. Grades children participate in several subject classes, including Physical Education, Music (Strings and Orchestra), Handwork, and Spanish. Our Early Childhood program includes Kindergarten, Nursery, Toddler and Parent-Child classes. Our faculty is a diverse, multi-generational group. We are a mix of both new and experienced teachers.
