Music Teacher

Job Summary: The Birches music teacher nurtures the musical talents of all students. They share with students an appreciation of music as an art form and help students recognize the historical context of music in human culture. The music teacher nurtures students’ development of vocal and instrumental expression, listening skills, and music literacy. This is a part-time position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach general music classes to PreK- 8th grade groups, including voice and instrumental instruction.
• Plan, organize, and teach “Explorations,” four 6-week workshops annually. 
• Lead community singing at weekly all-school assemblies.
• Select and coordinate activities related to the presentation of musical performances.
• Contribute to student progress reports.
• Participate in cohesive interdisciplinary curriculum development.
• Attend monthly faculty meetings and designated school events.
• Promote Birches’ mission, advancing awareness and support of progressive, nature-based education.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in education or a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Three or more years of experience teaching elementary and middle school students.
• Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development and classroom management.
• Desire to collaborate with colleagues.
• Strong creative skills and an innovative mindset.
