Math Teacher

Faculty / Full-Time

Pingree School, Hamilton, MA

Pingree School is a dynamic and aspirational, independent, all-gender day school on the North Shore of Boston, located on a beautiful 100-acre campus in South Hamilton, where approximately 385 students in grades 9 through 12 solve problems, build community, and learn how to learn. Pingree School empowers every community member to pursue knowledge with courage and imagination, thrive in joy and challenge, and create a more just and equitable world. Committed to developing global citizens, Pingree actively seeks faculty, staff and students of character and intelligence from diverse social, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Pingree School seeks a well-qualified full-time math teacher beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year. We seek educators who will build upon Pingree’s established integrated curriculum and collaborative approach to teaching mathematics and who will seek opportunities to instill a firm conceptual foundation, emphasize the practical application of mathematics, and integrate anti-racism into coursework–while also fostering an inclusive learning environment. The successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of and passion for mathematics, a proven record of excellence in teaching, a broad understanding of the way quantitative reasoning informs critical reasoning–and an appreciation for problem-based, student-centered pedagogy.

Pingree is proud of the depth and range of our mathematics curriculum. Our foundational courses are embedded in an integrated curriculum that includes algebra, geometry, basic probability and statistics, and discrete topics, after which students move on to various levels of calculus and statistics. With this curriculum in mind, we seek candidates who are eager to teach across the curriculum at a variety of levels. The selected candidate should expect to teach four sections of mathematics to include a combination of foundational and advanced courses. A successful applicant will enjoy the process of creating and sharing original course materials and have an interest in integrating technology and problem solving into the classroom. Furthermore, they will be eager to participate in a “course team” that collaborates regularly to ensure as common an experience as possible for students within each course.  As Pingree transitions away from the Advanced Placement curriculum, strong candidates will be those who are eager to collaborate in the design of our own advanced courses.

We seek candidates who are committed to and enjoy working with adolescents in all areas of school life. They also should be open to exploring collaborative, experiential, and interdisciplinary teaching opportunities, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to equity,  inclusion, and a willingness to explore and share the ways in which diverse voices have contributed significantly to the development of modern mathematics.  In addition to classroom teaching, Pingree teachers are asked to coach and/or supervise two seasons of a sport or equivalent afternoon co-curricular activity, as well as serve as an advisor.

To apply for the Mathematics teacher position, please submit a cover letter and resume, along with contact information for two professional references.
