About St. John’s Prep

St. John’s Prep is an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12. Founded on the Xaverian values of compassion, humility, simplicity, trust, and zeal, we educate students to be, do and stand for good in the world. We enroll approximately 1,500 students from more than 90 communities in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Position Overview and Responsibilities

As the pastoral staff for St. John’s, campus ministers foster a vibrant and worshiping faith community that engages and inspires adolescent boys. The Campus Ministry team consists of the director of campus ministry, an assistant director for community formation, one campus minister for grades 6 through 8 (Middle School), three campus ministers for grades 9 through 12 (High School), a part-time campus minister, and a part-time chaplain.

The team is based in the Br. William Drinan, C.F.X. Center for Campus Ministry and enjoys active support from School leadership and members of the faculty and staff. The team offers programs and initiatives in the areas of sacramental worship, retreats, social justice, service immersion programs, and provides an active ministry presence in all areas of school life. High School campus ministers also look for opportunities to collaborate with their Middle School colleague. In addition to these responsibilities, High School campus ministers are expected to teach one course in the Religious Studies Department.

Education and Experience

• Experience in youth ministry and/or campus ministry
• A bachelor’s degree in theology, religious studies, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in pastoral ministry, divinity, or a related field is preferred.
• Deep understanding of and respect for the Catholic faith tradition
• Thrives in a busy environment that calls for multi-tasking
• Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment
• Creativity, imagination and a sense of humor
• Valid driver’s license and MVR required

Physical Requirements:

• Standing/sitting for long periods of time
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
• Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday
• Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone
• Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR

• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
