Our team is looking to welcome a facilities technician who takes pride in their work, both as part of a successful team and independently in a multidisciplinary role. To be successful in this role, you must be able to:

  • Ensure the maintenance, repair and beautification of campus buildings, grounds, facilities, and outdoor spaces
  • Troubleshoot and resolve routine maintenance issues in a timely and efficient manner
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down tables, chairs, equipment for campus programs and events
  • Assist with building maintenance, snow removal, event set up, campus traffic and campus deliveries.
  • Provide parking attendant and campus security assistance for campus events, as needed
  • Operate light equipment, machinery, and vehicles (including, but not limited to: motor vehicles, lawnmowers, snowblowers, trimmers, saws, drills, and other mechanical or power-driven equipment)
  • Perform routine repairs to ensure optimal safety and performance of facilities, equipment, and vehicles
  • Maintains and participates in work order system, maintenance logs and inventory supplies and materials
  • Communicate concerns and/or needs of facilities and equipment to supervisor and others
  • Coordinate with athletics department to understand needs including practice and game schedules
  • Assist with all aspects of arena, exterior athletics fields, rink, training center and athletic court preparations to ensure facilities are operationally and aesthetically pleasing, properly maintained
  • Ensure the safety and security of the people and buildings within our school community
  • Willingness to work variable shifts, including nights and weekends, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with at least one year of apprenticeship or on-the-job training
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC skills preferred, trade school in (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, etc.) highly desirable
  • One to two years of experience with facilities support, landscape, or custodial maintenance
  • Ability to safely and proficiently operate power tools and equipment including saws, drills, etc.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively interact and collaborate in a team environment
  • Punctual and consistent attendance, good sense of humor, and a strong work ethic
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to satisfactorily pass a pre-employment background checks and other screenings
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and efficiency
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to complete assignments with minimal supervision
  • Current and valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to/from work
  • Ability to create and contribute to an engaging and inclusive learning environment and workplace
  • Ability to be flexible, effectively manage stress, and adapt to changing work priorities and assignments

This job requires one to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds as well as the ability to stand, sit, walk, and effectively communicate (oral, written, non-verbal) with others. This job typically requires 5% sitting, 75% walking, and 20% standing and is performed under ongoing temperature variations in a generally hazard free environment. Incumbent will be required to work extended hours (early morning, late afternoon/evening), including after school, during evenings, and occasional weekends.

Dexter Southfield’s 36-acre campus is comprised of several buildings, playing fields, and outdoor learning spaces, which are accessible via internal and external walkways, stairs, nature paths, hills, and uneven terrain. This position requires one to navigate and transfer between work areas and buildings in all weather conditions.

This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly paid), benefits-eligible position. Free onsite parking, breakfast, and lunch are provided.
