Our team is looking to welcome a facilities technician who takes pride in their work, both as part of a successful team and independently in a multidisciplinary role. To be successful in this role, you must be able to:

• Proficiently maintain an ice arena including edging, surfacing, skate sharpening, etc.
• Operate and maintain ice surface equipment, including Zamboni and tools for equipment maintenance
• Understand ice plant operations, maintain mechanical units, and take readings
• Maintain board systems and protective netting
• Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
• Assist with building repair and beautification of campus buildings, ground and landscaping, snow removal, parking lots, playgrounds and athletic fields
• Provide assistance with events set up and break down (equipment, furniture, etc.), campus traffic, transportation and deliveries
• Communicate concerns and/or needs of facilities and equipment to supervisor and others
• Commit to working extended hours in a cold environment
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with at least two years of full-time experience maintaining ice arena
• At least two years of full-time experience in facilities support, landscaping, or maintenance
• US Ice Rink–Certified Ice Technician certification highly desired
• Proficiency with Zamboni and power equipment safety, maintenance, and operations
• Working knowledge of refrigerant systems and handling of hazardous materials (e.g. ammonia)
• Ability to work independently and effectively interact and collaborate in a team environment
• Effective interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
• Punctual and consistent attendance, strong work ethic, and commitment to safety and efficiency
• Satisfactory completion of all pre-employment background checks and screenings
• Current driver’s license with clean driving record and reliable transportation to/from work
• Create and contribute to an engaging and inclusive learning environment and workplace
• Ability to be flexible, effectively manage stress, and adapt to changing work priorities and assignments

This job requires one to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds as well as the ability to stand, sit, walk, and effectively communicate (oral, written, non-verbal) with others. This job typically requires 5% sitting, 75% walking, and 20% standing and is performed under ongoing temperature variations in a generally hazard free environment. Incumbent will be required to work extended hours (early morning, late afternoon/evening), including after school, during evenings, and occasional weekends.

Dexter Southfield’s 36-acre campus is comprised of several buildings, playing fields, and outdoor learning spaces, which are accessible via internal and external walkways, stairs, nature paths, hills, and uneven terrain. This position requires one to navigate and transfer between work areas and buildings in all weather conditions.

This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly paid), benefits-eligible position. Free onsite parking, breakfast, and lunch are provided.
