Job Description: 11 Month, Full-Time, Exempt Position
The Cambridge School of Weston seeks a Director of Residential Life and Student Activities. This is a residential position working closely with the Assistant Head of School for Student Life and Dean of Students for Grades 9 and 10. Candidates for this position must hold a bachelor’s degree, have a minimum of 3 years of experience working in a boarding school, have the ability to drive school vehicles, and possess or obtain a Massachusetts driver’s license before the start date.
Specific responsibilities for this position include:
- Being a visible presence on campus and at school events
- Assigning students to dorms and making roommate pairings each year
- Providing leadership for dorm parents and boarding student leaders by developing a comprehensive opening meeting/training schedule to ensure the continued growth and development of the residential program
- Developing and ensuring the design and implementation of an effective new boarding student orientation and school-wide retention program
- Managing minor infractions of residential policies
- Organizing and facilitating events specifically for the residential community, including All Boarders’ Weekends, snack socials, and community dinners
- Selecting and regularly meeting/working with a group of Lead Dorm Parents
- Taking a leadership role in the development of a comprehensive residential curriculum delivered over the year at weekly dorm meetings and other residential programs
- Planning and providing oversight for weekend activities including advertising events, assigning chaperones and drivers, managing the electronic sign-up process, and communicating weekly information
- Overseeing, in partnership with the data systems manager, Orah, our boarding student information management and sign-out system
- Assigning students and faculty to lunch and dinner duty and communicating the schedule to all constituent groups.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with parents and guardians of boarding students to ensure open lines of communication and strong partnerships
- Facilitating the opening and closing of the residential program each year, including our dormitories
- Serving in the administrator-on-duty rotation or as a dorm parent
- Teach a class, participate in the PACE program, or equivalent
- Advising 6-8 students
- Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Head of School for Student Life or Head of School
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years working in a residential setting
- Demonstrated interest in working with adolescents
- Strong cross-cultural competencies and intercultural communication skills
- Facility with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and information database systems (Blackbaud preferred)
- Must have the ability to drive school vehicles and possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license before the start date
