Brooks School seeks a full-time Director of Library Services starting July 1, 2022, or earlier.

The school seeks a Director with an ALA-accredited MLIS degree and 3-5 years experience as an independent school or college librarian. Candidates should be prepared to manage all aspects of library services and programming including but not limited to the daily operation of the facility, creating and implementing all library policies, procedures, and planning initiatives. Knowledge and experience working with online research resources, integrated library systems and developing libguides is expected, as is proficiency in teaching information literacy. 

Candidates should also have proven ability in supervising a small staff and in managing budgets, vendor relationships and database subscriptions. Additional responsibilities include collection development, oversight of the cataloging process, community outreach and library web/social media-presence management. Brooks School’s ongoing commitment to becoming an anti-racist institution necessitates a focus on culturally responsive education and the integration of critical consciousness in the curriculum. This should be reflected in the curation of the library collection, creation of featured displays, lesson planning and resource collation.

Experience working with high school or undergraduate students on research projects is essential, as is demonstrated success in collaborating with faculty across the disciplines in the integration of information literacy and citation practices into the curriculum. Other duties include overseeing and participating in staffing evening study halls, supervising student library prefects, serving as a student advisor, sharing a rotating Saturday library schedule, and participating in the broader life of a boarding school. This includes the possibility of teaching a course in an academic department.  

The Director is an appointed member of the faculty and serves on faculty advisories including the Curriculum, All Community Read, and Prize Committees. In addition, the Director has the opportunity to start a library prefect program, to work closely with the Learning Center and peer tutors, to partner with IT and academic administration on technology education, and to be an integral voice in creating a programmatic vision for the library moving forward. This position reports to the Associate Head of School for Academic Affairs.

EDUCATION: 

  • ALA-accredited MLIS degree preferred

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to use a keyboard for extended periods of time.

TRAVEL: This role does not require travel.
