Assistant Director of Buildings & Grounds

Beaver Country Day School—an independent day school located just outside of Boston, serving grades 6-12—seeks an Assistant Director of Buildings & Grounds to support the Director of Buildings & Grounds. This is a full-time position.
Under the direction of the Director of Buildings & Grounds, the Assistant Director of Buildings & Grounds helps run the day-to-day operations of the Buildings & Grounds department to allow for increased communication, greater efficiency, and high-level support for the benefit of the central function of the school.

Essential Functions:
Provide administrative support to the Director and Buildings & Grounds department
- Primary user of the CMMS (SchoolDude)
- Maintain weekly billing functions for B&G and Tech department.
- Procurement of supplies and services as directed for B&G and Tech department.
- Track department personnel hours and vacation
- Maintain log books for school vehicles.
- Capital Projects
- Attend construction meetings and Capital Projects Committee meetings with the Director and take minutes.
- Digitize all old construction documents and include any new plans in an online filing system.
- Work with the Director on assessing deferred maintenance vs. new capital projects.
- Forecast costs for future projects and build schedules for work.
- Events
- Attend calendar committee meetings with event organizers on campus and coordinate support from B&G.
- Meet individually with event organizers to plan events, put together floor plans, and coordinate between B&G, food service, and tech support.
- Create event files for each space on campus so there is a historical record of what events have been held, room capacities, and resources.
- Operations
- Interface with the Tech department on Internet of Things ( IoT) projects.
- Manage office moves.
- Work with school leadership on emergency management, crisis planning, and continuity planning.
- Monitor HVAC controls for each building.
- Assess security footage when approved.
- Supervision
- Act in place of the Director when he is not available
- Lead training sessions for the department on safety, skills, and new policies.
- Run the CampUs summer volunteer program.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills and competencies
- A college degree or certificate in facilities or construction management.
- Some experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), SchoolDude preferably.
- Familiarity with trades; work experience in at least one trade.
- Experience in an educational setting is preferred.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral.
- Able to work independently and solve problems creatively.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
Other requirements
- Must be able to walk several miles each day, work outside in the sun occasionally, stand for long periods, crawl, climb, and lift 75 lbs. overhead.
- Must be able to work on ladders and in high areas.
- Possess a valid MA driver’s license and pass a CORI background check.
