Admissions Officer

This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position. 

 

Position Summary

The AO will focus on the recruitment and retention of students. The school has several product lines (e.g. Preschool, Day K-9, Junior Boarding 4-9, Foundations, learning support) so having the ability to work with a wide range of prospective parents and students is important. While we work in a team environment and value collegiality, the AO will have agency and encouragement to work independently and show initiative. There is the opportunity for professional development as well as for membership in peer organizations such as AISAP. 

 

The Admissions Office will welcome prospective families and care for them throughout the admission process. This may sound easy but the position requires incredible diplomacy, patience, empathy and communication skills. This includes the ability to articulate the benefits of an independent school education and the unique features of the Applewild program with conviction, authenticity, persuasion. This is a great job for someone who loves working with families, is able to multitask, handle pressure and maintain confidentiality.   

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand and support the mission of the school.
  • Represent the school to the public, and accurately reflect programs and ethos.
  • Work to build and maintain relationships with area schools as well as with educational access programs and educational consultants.
  • Track data using the BlackBaud system, manage your caseload through the system.
  • Be comfortable with and enjoy working with children and their parents. 
  • Assess candidates and guide parents through the application process.
  • Develop campaigns and strategies for attracting the prospective families. This may include working with graphic designers, list services, and mail houses.
  • Promote respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion as a core value of the School, a shared responsibility in partnership with the school community.
  • Organize, set up, and run Open Houses & other community outreach events
  • Communicate and grow relationships with educational consultants domestic and international
  • Promotes Applewild at fairs, expos, schools and other recruiting events
  • Aid in the development and implementation of recruitment and retention strategies to meet school goals. 
  • Occasionally travel in support of the school’s enrollment goals.  
  • Perform “schoolhouse” duties as deemed necessary, this may include carpool supervision, coaching, advising, supporting a club support, covering a residential study hall. 
  • Participate fully in the life of Applewild School, including:
    • Attend Faculty Meetings and professional development
    • Attend School programs 

 

Working Conditions

  • Physical Demands: Able to sit, stand and lift up to 30 lbs for eight hours per day, including the need to walk up hills and stairs frequently. Occasional travel, weekend and/or weeknight obligations. 

 

Educational/License Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Previous experience in admission or auxiliary programs preferred
  • Fluent in the use of Google and Microsoft Office products, general ease with technology. Previous experience in database management 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent analytical, communication and social skills
  • Commitment to customer service
  • Requires a strong attention to detail
  • Team player with a strong capacity for initiative
