ISEEN New England Regional Expedition: Experiencing the Mess and the Magic of Student-Powered Projects

on-site

Pomfret School
398 Pomfret Street, Pomfret, CT

Many schools offer immersive project-based opportunities during the year, and when executed effectively, students remember them as some of their most engaging and powerful learning experiences. Project: Pomfret, our two-week project period at the end of the winter term, offers students the opportunity to co-create the curriculum, set the goals, and emerge as leaders as they engage with faculty and peers in new ways. Each project emerges from one of our six certificate themes: social justice, STEM exploration, sustainability, artistic expression and design, global citizenship and awareness, and character and leadership.

Participants in this Regional Expedition will learn about the foundations of experiential education from ISEEN facilitators, then dive into their own experiential learning as they spend a day embedded with Project: Pomfret groups, witnessing in real time the process that unfolds in the “messy middle” of this kind of immersive project work.

This year’s project topics include “Projectiles,” “Art for the Greater Good,” “Lifting Female Voices,” and “Sports Psychology and Leadership,” alongside nearly twenty other themes.
