Starting full-time salaries for the 2025-2026 school year typically range from a starting salary of $69,000 to the median 20-year teaching experience salary of $101,701.00  Both of these salaries are exclusive of additional compensation granted to faculty with relevant advanced degrees.  The starting salary for any hired candidate is based on experience within salary bands.

Compensation for full-time employees includes a 403(b) plan with up to a 10% match of salary and other competitive benefits offerings. Benefits offered to eligible employees include health & dental insurance; commuter benefits; long-term disability insurance, and more.

Reports to: Upper School Director

Job Summary: 

BB&N is seeking a full-time Upper School Woodworking/3D Design Teacher. Primary responsibilities include: continued cultivation of BB&N’s established woodworking program with an emphasis on sculpture, furniture, and student-designed projects; develop and expand the program to include a broader range of traditional and non-traditional methods, materials, tools and technology including digital fabrication at the intersection of 3D design, art, and craft; incorporation and knowledge of contemporary and historically relevant sculpture and design styles to support curriculum development; ability to maintain studio equipment and tools to create a safe and inclusive working environment; ability manage materials, purchasing, and budget.

The Woodworking/3D Design Teacher collaborates closely with colleagues in the Fine Arts Department and attends regular department and faculty meetings. Additional responsibilities will vary according to current program needs, likely involved with upper school visual art gallery management or maintaining a social media presence for the art department.

All full-time faculty are required to shadow a faculty student advisor their first year and serve as a student advisor for subsequent years.

Skills and Competencies:

The ideal candidate will have teaching experience and an educational background in woodworking, digital fabrication, and 3D design. An undergraduate degree is required and a Master’s degree is preferred. Preference will be given to teachers with 3-5 years of experience teaching at the high school level.

In addition, the candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Experience fabricating furniture and sculpture with wood and a familiarity with a wide variety of woodworking tools and equipment;

  • Ability to lead students through project design and fabrication;

  • Ability to incorporate a broad range of traditional and non-traditional methods, materials, tools, and technology including digital fabrication tools such as laser cutters and 3D printers.

  • Knowledge of contemporary and historically relevant sculpture and design styles to support curriculum development, student engagement, and student self-expression;

  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain studio equipment and tools to create a safe and inclusive working environment;

  • Ability to manage materials, purchasing, and budget.

  • Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community;

  • Enthusiasm for working with adolescents;

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse group of people, including students, parents, faculty, and staff;

  • Strong communication skills through writing, speaking, and listening;

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment;

  • Understand and exhibit high standards of professional conduct.

Preferred additional skills:

  • Managerial skills and experience with gallery spaces or experience with social media

  • Familiarity with CAD software such as SketchUp, Rhino, Adobe Illustrator, TinkerCAD.
