Upper School Physics Teacher
Providence Country Day School, East Providence, RI
Providence Country Day School, an independent school serving students in grades PK-12, seeks an experienced, versatile enthusiastic educator who is exceptionally well prepared in the academic field of Physics to join our Science Department. The Upper School Science Teacher is responsible for teaching physics at the high school level, and creating a dynamic learning environment for students in the class. Candidates who are also confident in and qualified to teach math (PreCalculus or higher) and/or other science electives are strongly encouraged to apply.
PCD follows the “Physics First” sequence in the Upper School with students learning conceptual physics in 9th grade, chemistry in 10th, biology in 11th and a variety of science electives in 12th. The Science Teacher is expected to effectively plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and active student engagement that encourages students to observe, question, investigate and problem solve. Our classrooms at PCD are safe spaces for our students where we emphasize mutual respect, inclusivity and positive reinforcement through instruction that effectively engages students with a variety of learning styles. The ideal candidate will participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the chemistry curriculum, course materials and methods of instruction.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree (or higher). PCD students use technology in a variety of ways in every discipline. Use of our learning management system, participating in the advisory program, and committing to on-going education and innovation are required professional standards. Experience in building and guiding student interest in engineering and robotics, including club activities and high school level competitions, would be a plus. In addition to teaching and advising, PCD faculty impact the lives of students through club leadership, coaching, and other extracurricular opportunities.
Candidates of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. We strive to have a team that reflects the diversity of our students and families. It is important to us that our students can see themselves in the adults that surround them each day. PCD is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer.
Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, and three references to Susan Anderson, Assistant to the Head of School, at email@example.com.
