Upper School Math / Computer Science Teacher
Providence Country Day School, East Providence, RI
Providence Country Day School, an independent school serving students in grades PK-12, seeks an experienced, versatile enthusiastic educator who is exceptionally well prepared in the academic fields of math and computer sciences. The Upper School Math and Computer Science Teacher is responsible for teaching various levels of math and computer science at the high school level, and creating a dynamic learning environment for students in the class. Candidates who are confident in and qualified to teach math at the level of PreCalculus and higher are strongly encouraged to apply, and experience with both entry level and AP Computer Science is highly desirable.
PCD’s math program encourages students to identify their goals within the subject of mathematics and work with teachers and advisors to plan out their path to obtain those goals. The math curriculum includes courses with various levels of pacing at each level in order to match student strengths and learning styles. The Upper School offerings begin at the Algebra 1 level and extend through AP Calculus AB/BC and beyond to topics in Linear Algebra. Seniors also have the option of exploring math electives in Statistics and Financial Literacy. The successful candidate will also teach a year-long Computer Science course that may incorporate introductory topics and more advanced, AP-level topics depending on student enrollment and interest. Our classrooms at PCD are safe spaces for our students where we emphasize mutual respect, inclusivity and positive reinforcement through instruction that effectively engages students with a variety of learning styles.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree (or higher). PCD students use technology in a variety of ways in every discipline. Use of our learning management system, participating in the advisory program, and committing to on-going education and innovation are required professional standards. Experience in building and guiding student interest in engineering and robotics, including club activities and high school level competitions, would be a plus. In addition to teaching and advising, PCD faculty impact the lives of students through club leadership, coaching, and other extracurricular opportunities.
Candidates of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. We strive to have a team that reflects the diversity of our students and families. It is important to us that our students can see themselves in the adults that surround them each day. PCD is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer.
Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, and three references to Susan Anderson, Assistant to the Head of School, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
