Summary Description:

Buckingham Browne & Nichols School (BB&N) seeks one full-time or part-time dynamic, student-centered Upper School Librarian or History teacher to cover a leave of absence from March 2026 to June 2026. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of research, teaching, and program development in a vibrant high school community. The successful candidate will provide research support, staff the circulation desk, and assist with library initiatives and programming. In partnership with the Upper School Library Director, the librarian will collaborate with faculty to design and deliver engaging lessons, develop research-focused instructional units, and foster a culture of intellectual curiosity across the Upper School. This position is in-person with the flexibility to work part-time, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Key functions for this position include, but are not limited to:

Manage daily library operations, including circulation, research support, and organization of library resources.

Provide one-on-one and group instruction in research methods, citation practices, and effective use of databases and other resources.

Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy skills into the curriculum.

Assist the Library Director with administrative tasks, instructional planning, and library programming.

Support collection development by recommending new materials, assisting with weeding, and maintaining a diverse and current collection.

Collaborate with the Library Director, classroom teachers, and specialists to design and implement lessons, while assessing student learning and instructional effectiveness.

Engage students through creative displays, programming, and events that promote reading and discovery.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements, Skills, and Competencies:

The ideal candidate will have, or be working towards, a master’s degree in Library Science or History. We seek candidates who bring strong pedagogical skills, deep knowledge of the research process, and familiarity with academic databases and digital resources. Prior teaching experience is strongly preferred.

In addition, the candidate will demonstrate the following:

A strong foundation in information literacy instruction and best practices.

Expertise in selecting, acquiring, evaluating, and organizing diverse information resources across multiple formats.

Commitment to the ethical and responsible use of information.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

A passion for fostering inclusive, student-centered learning environments.

Salary: $69,000 – $101,701.00*

*BB&N offers competitive salaries and benefits, employing equitable and consistent compensation practices. The starting salary for any hired candidate is based on experience within salary bands. Starting full-time salaries for the 2025-2026 school year typically range from a starting salary of $69,000 to the median 20-year teaching experience salary of $101,701.00. The salary for this position will be prorated to a daily rate.
