 About You

You are an experienced lower school teacher (PreK-Class 5) who is known by others as a highly energetic and productive self-starter. You have excellent organizational and relationship building skills, and you are flexible and adept at guiding students in the classroom and at supporting fellow faculty. Above all, you have chosen a career where you can make a difference in the lives of children while enjoying the rhythm and energy that comes from working in an independent day school.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to:

  • Foster a culture of high expectations to allow every student to achieve positive results in a supportive, academically rigorous learning environment
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate, well-rounded lesson plans that align with School standards and support the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs of each child
  • Collaborate with peer faculty to develop curriculum, projects, and assessments using a variety of approaches and techniques (e.g., text, project-based, web-based, cooperative learning, discussion groups, field trips, homework, etc.)
  • Provide instruction as an in-house substitute in lower school classrooms in the areas of math, reading, social studies, science, English, spelling, and vocabulary suitable to the developmental age and subject matter of students
  • Coordinate timely and ongoing communication and feedback to faculty and parents as needed
  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with teachers and academic support to effectively address those needs and employ differentiated instruction
  • Create a learning environment that promotes character, respect, and goodwill
  • Demonstrate a commitment to training and professional development to remain current with educational standards, emerging technology, classroom resources, and pedagogy
  • Actively participate in faculty meetings, in-service programs, and training workshops
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School or his/her designee

 Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a focus on education; advanced degree highly preferred
  • At least two years of full-time teaching experience working with lower school students (PreK-Class 5)
  • Broad-based knowledge of various subject matters, training, and instruction
  • Effective communication skills (oral, written, non-verbal)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various constituents
  • Knowledge of teaching principles, methods, behavior management, and conflict resolution strategies
  • Understanding of academic, social, and behavioral characteristics of students in the age group(s) served
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, and conduct comprehensive lesson plans and instruction
  • Demonstrated creativity to promote a motivating and engaging learning environment
  • History of continued education or professional development in assigned subject area(s)
  • Commitment to create and contribute to an engaging and inclusive learning environment and workplace
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing work priorities and needs

 Please note that this is a full-time, benefits-eligible on-campus position (Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM). Weekend and/or evening hours may be required.
