Seventh and Eighth Grades Science Specialist and Eighth Grade Homeroom Teacher
(Start date August 25, 2023)
Lesley Ellis, an independent school preschool-grade 8, seeks experienced science teacher candidates who are adept at supporting students in acquiring and achieving a high level of interest and mastery in scientific skills and critical thinking. Candidates should be able to foster and maintain academic engagement. We are looking for an individual who will bring expertise and enthusiasm to teaching and have the desire to work closely with teammates to ensure an enriching, engaging, and challenging school experience.
Respecting and embracing differences has been at the core of a Lesley Ellis education since the school’s early days. Our anti-bias curriculum is rooted in a developmental model of learning that engages children’s innate desire to observe, question, consider, and eventually think deeply about complex interpersonal and societal issues. In 2005, we received the Leading Edge Award for Equity and Justice from the National Association of Independent Schools, and we continue to learn and work against systems of injustice, including racism, by practicing behavior that demonstrates appreciation for multiple perspectives and engaging in conversations and actions that confront bias at all developmental levels.
Responsibilities include:
- Implement an innovative, creative, and challenging science curriculum for grades 7 and 8 in collaboration science teaching team.
- Implement and oversee all organizational and general communication of the homeroom in collaboration with another member of the team.
- Establish relationships with all students that are based on respect for individual learning styles, developmental stages, and temperaments.
- Foster open communication, decision-making, and problem-solving channels between parents, faculty, and administration.
- Write progress reports two times per year.
Qualifications:
- Experience teaching middle school science required.
- M.A. or M.Ed in math or middle school education preferred.
- Commitment to anti-bias education.
- Collaborative nature.
- Genuine enthusiasm for working with adolescents.
- Willingness and desire to work with students of all abilities.
School year position. Competitive salary and benefits.
