Senior Associate Director of Admissions

Administrator / Full-Time

The Senior Associate Director of Admissions reports to and partners with the Director of Enrollment Management in developing and executing Thayer’s annual enrollment plan and leading core functions of the Enrollment Office including admission, financial aid, marketing and student retention in furtherance of Thayer’s commitment to enrolling, teaching and empowering an exceptional and diverse community of middle and upper school students.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Plans, oversees and participates in admissions events and activities including Open Houses, receptions, school fairs, revisit days and other outreach efforts.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Enrollment Management, manage the Financial Aid process and award management.
  • Leads select admissions committees; hosts and interviews students and families; reads and assesses applications; provides guidance to Enrollment Office staff on admission questions/issues.
  • Manages the Enrollment Office’s collection and analysis of research and data to inform strategies, practices and operations.
  • Works closely with key stakeholders (including the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging) to recruit, enroll and retain a diverse student body, including international students. This includes fostering and maintaining relationships with sending schools, consultants and non-profit/educational organizations.
  • Collaborates closely with program leaders across the Upper and Middle School to attract and enroll talented students that will thrive in Thayer’s academic, athletic, arts and leadership/service programs.
  • Supports the daily operation and supervision of the Enrollment Office and team.
  • Engages in the life of the school, including by serving as an advisor and as an athletic coach for one season.

 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher and at least 5 years of admission/enrollment experience, preferably in an independent school or college setting
  • Successful experience in building, maintaining and growing relationships with sending schools, placement consultants and other organizations/community groups
  • Demonstrated strength in collecting, analyzing, presenting and leveraging admission/enrollment and other related data utilizing technology platforms
  • Proven ability to meaningfully engage and build relationships with prospective and current families/students, colleagues, alumni/ae and other stakeholders; experience working with international students preferred
  • Exceptional discretion, sensitivity and commitment to confidentiality, privacy and the dignity of all community members
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience in supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in a school setting
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement solutions to complex problems
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle ambiguity
  • Experience making collaborative decisions
  • Focused ability to drive results and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Exceptional organizational skills
