School Counseling – Independent Consultant
Dexter Southfield School, Brookline, MA
Dexter Southfield seeks an independent consultant to provide supplemental services to our school counseling team. The consultant must be licensed as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and will work with students from Pre-K through 12th grade. This assignment involves providing individual and group counseling services to support students’ emotional and social development as needed.
The school counselor independent contractor will be assigned to:
- Create and implement individual and group counseling curriculum for students as needed.
- Deliver effective support plans to improve the emotional well-being of students.
- Recommend and facilitate crisis interventions.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate interventions and provide referrals to outside services when applicable.
- Consult with the school counseling team, teachers, parents, and administrators to create a supportive learning environment to ensure comprehensive care is delivered for students.
- Review and recommend changes to the support and delivery of services for students and families.
- Provide ongoing assessment, evaluation, treatment, and other services as required.
- Engage with families to triage and provide support and resources as needed.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions and student progress and treatment outcomes in compliance with school policies and HIPAA guidelines.
- Other assignments as needed to support the School Counseling and leadership team.
To qualify, an independent consultant must meet the following requirements:
- Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, or a related field.
- Current licensure as a Mental Health Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Massachusetts.
- Five (5) years’ experience providing counseling services to the targeted population.
- Understand the academic, social, and behavioral characteristics of students (PreK-Class 12).
- Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to establish trust and rapport quickly.
- Work flexible hours based on the needs of students and families.
