Our unique academic curriculum is developed in collaboration with our Math and Science Departments, and we emphasize fine motor skill development through programs designed by our Occupational Therapy (OT) specialists.

Position Overview

The Preschool Director is a visionary and hands-on leader who oversees all aspects of Lumen Academy’s preschool program. This role combines strong educational leadership with operational management to ensure that our program reflects the school’s mission of academic excellence, whole-child development, and family partnership.

$60,000-$70,000, based on experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the implementation of Lumen Academy’s unique preschool curriculum developed with our Math, Science, and OT departments.
• Ensure that teaching methods balance play-based learning with academic and developmental readiness.
• Support teachers in creating engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environments.
• Monitor and assess the quality of instruction and student progress.
• Recruit, train, and mentor preschool teachers and support staff.
• Lead professional development focused on innovative early childhood education practices.
• Foster a collaborative and positive team culture grounded in respect and growth.
• Build strong relationships with families, keeping them informed and involved in their child’s learning journey.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for parent communication, feedback, and conferences.
• Organize events that strengthen the preschool community and highlight student growth.
• Manage daily operations, including scheduling, classroom ratios, and compliance with licensing requirements.
• Maintain a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for students and staff.
• Coordinate with the wider Lumen Academy faculty to align preschool goals with the school’s broader academic vision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (required).
• Strong understanding of play-based, child-centered, and academic preschool curricula.
• Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
• Ability to foster relationships with children, staff, and families built on trust, respect, and empathy.
• Passion for innovation in early childhood education, particularly in STEM and fine motor skill development.
