The Governor’s Academy, the oldest boarding school in New England, inspires and engages inquisitive students in ninth through twelfth grade. Our 456-acre campus is located thirty miles north of Boston and five miles south of Newburyport, a classic New England coastal town. Govs has approximately 400 students and 200 employees.

POSITION SUMMARY
This full-time science teaching position will have ongoing contact with and direct responsibility for students’ academic and social life on campus (in loco parentis) and will involve specific responsibilities that include coaching or other afternoon program involvement. The successful candidate will be deeply invested in a student-centered pedagogy providing authentic, hands-on learning experiences, will have enthusiasm and appreciation for working with adolescents, will be a collaborative member of the teaching faculty, and will desire to deepen their teaching practice through innovative ideas and research-based best practices. With teaching faculty status comes the expectation of total involvement in the lives of students on campus, contributing to the life of the campus through various means inside and outside the classroom. This is a one-year interim position covering a leave of absence.
- Teaching:
- 3 sections of science, with multiple sections of physics
- Afternoon Program:
- 2 seasons as an athletic coach, performing art director, or equivalent
- Student Life:
- Weekend duties
- Must show a demonstrated interest in social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion work and have experience creating equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist spaces in their teaching.
QUALIFICATIONS
B.S. or B.A. in science or mathematics is preferred, masters level preferred; Physics teaching experience preferred; experience in coaching and/or playing interscholastic athletics, directing, and/or experience on stage in the performing arts preferred. Must be able to work collegially; be committed to working in a diverse community; have experience working and communicating with diverse populations; enjoy working with young people in a boarding school environment; and must have a valid driver’s license.
