The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. The physical education teacher is a member of the school’s Lower Division and reports to the Lower Division Head. This full-time, 10-month position comes with the responsibility of working with faculty and staff to teach physical education in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals.
Responsibilities |
- Teach physical education
- Design, plan, and implement student-centered lessons that demonstrate a deep understanding of the academic discipline, curriculum, instruction, child development, and best practices, aligned with the goals and mission of The Park School
- Establish and implement expectations for student safety and conduct; and procedures and routines, consistent with School policies
- Assess student performance and engagement, including academics, behavior, and social-emotional needs, while communicating directly with students, colleagues, and families both formally and informally when necessary
- Oversee and serve as the primary contact between home and school as an advisor to a small group of students
- Collaborate with all Park School employees as appropriate
- Participate in and contribute to an adult learning community by engaging in meetings, discussions, committees, task forces, and professional development.
- Complete administrative tasks and coverage duties as assigned (student supervision, attendance, reporting, documenting curriculum, etc.)
- Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice and performance
- Ensure that respect for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belong, social-emotional learning, and academic excellence are emphasized as core values of the School

Qualifications |
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults.
- Strong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments and other school-related documents.
- High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in teaching and learning & experience in working in a culturally diverse community.
- Demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development and innovative practices that support student growth.
- Ability to think independently and collaborate in a team environment.
- Skill in differentiating instruction.
- Maintain focus and adaptability in an energetic and, at times, loud environment.
- Effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflict with students and families in a timely manner.
- The ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet).
- Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the School, such as Veracross, SchoolPass, Atlas etc.
Physical Requirements:
- The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30 minute periods of time.
- The ability to regularly walk on and travel across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
- The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency.
- The ability to consistently operate a computer. Proficient or the ability to quickly learn Google tools and other school software.
- The ability to regularly stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down in order to support students.
- The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.
- The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead.
- The ability to occasionally transport (e.g., move or drag) 25 lbs.
- The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment.
