Position Summary
Bancroft School seeks a music teacher to join our dynamic team of educators starting in August of 2024. Ideal candidates can instruct Lower and Middle School band ensembles, teach general music classes Middle School, and teach Rock Band and Chamber Ensembles in the Upper School. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to engage students in the love of music and set high performance standards.  Experience in both individual and group instruction in woodwinds, brass, and percussion with the goal to bring students to performance level work is crucial. A background in general music and classroom teaching experience is preferred. A graduate degree in music or music education is strongly desired. We seek collaborative teachers who are ready to participate in all aspects of school life, including teaching after school lessons. The teacher will work with other teachers in the performing arts department and across disciplines.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Teach sixth, seventh, and eighth grade general music
  • Direct band ensembles in Lower, Middle, and possibly Upper School
  • Participate in all aspects of Middle School life including activities, clubs, and, if applicable, coaching

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music or Education (Master’s preferred)
  • Trained musician with experience on a variety of instruments
  • Experience with music classroom teaching
  • Experience in and enthusiasm for designing curriculum and inquiry-based learning
  • Particular ability to teach at the Middle School level and older students in the Upper School.
