Hourly Salary Range: $22 – $22

The Paraprofessional will assist teachers with classroom lessons, activities, organization, and management, as well as assisting special needs students. Paraprofessionals’ responsibilities include assisting the teacher with teaching new concepts or translating information for students to understand better, supervising students, and providing students with positive nurturing guidance. Paraprofessionals will deal with students, parents, staff, and the community in a professional manner, and follow and uphold school rules and standards.

 

This is a part-time role with an estimated commitment of 15 hours/week.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implement small group and individualized instructional services under the supervision of the classroom teacher and/or Special Education team.
  • Provide supervision and support to students throughout the school day including transitions, specials (music, art, PE, etc.), lunch, recess, and/or school related activities as determined by the Special Education Team.
  • Attend to students’ physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as tracking student attendance, typing, filing, photocopying, and grading tests and homework.
  • Assist in preparing and implementing learning plans to help students stay actively involved in learning.
  • Engage collaboratively with general education teachers to ensure appropriate modifications and plans for students are in place and address issues and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Create and maintain a safe, organized, well-structured environment for students.
  • Attend meetings with parents and colleagues, including, for example parent night, parent/teacher conferences, as well as general conferences, and section meetings.
  • As a member of the Student Support team, attend regular meetings and trainings.
  • Provide recess and substitution duties, as necessary.
  • Ability to be flexible in changing situations that requires independent quick thinking and being  independently able to respond using sound judgment
  • Attend occasional weekend or evening School events, programs, field trips, etc. as well as professional development days and pursue independent professional development (PD) through the School’s PD program.
  • Additional duties may include parent communication, lesson planning, record keeping, classroom management, material organization, etc.

PARAPROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A paraprofessional associate’s degree
  • A bachelor’s degree in child development or a related field may be advantageous
  • Having a first aid and CPR certifications is an advantage
  • Experience working with children, particularly special needs students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with educational software is an advantage
  • German language skill is an advantage
