N-6 Counselor and Learning Support Coordinator

N-6 Counselor and Learning Support Coordinator is a dynamic and multifaceted role.  The ideal candidate will bring an entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to serving all constituents. The role supports students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being from nursery to sixth grade. Responsibilities include facilitating support team meetings, collaborating with specialists, consulting with teachers and parents, overseeing evaluations, and coordinating learning and behavior plans. The role also involves promoting mental health awareness through teaching and professional development, supporting grade transitions, providing short-term counseling, and liaising with external treatment providers. We particularly welcome candidates with a Masters Degree or higher in a relevant field, (e.g., psychology (MS, PhD), social work (MSW).) for clinical care of children.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Lower School Responsibilities (Grades N-4, 165 students)

  • Clerk and facilitate grade level and specialist student support team meetings
  • Collaborate with reading and math specialists regarding student profiles and differentiated instruction
  • Consult with teachers, advisors, staff, and parents around students’ social, emotional, behavioral, and academic-wellbeing
  • Oversee the process of students receiving neuropsychological and educational evaluations, interpret test results, and prepare individual support plans for teachers.
  • Coordinate with teacher teams and parents to implement learning, behavior plans, and provide professional development as needed.
  • Coordinate independent practitioners (occupational and speech and language therapy) within the school setting
  • Actively engage with the school community to promote social, emotional, educational and mental health awareness through classroom visitation, teaching, staff professional development, and provide student programming, support groups, and parent programs. This includes working directly with classes, small groups, and individuals both proactively and reactively on issues of social-emotional well-being
  • Proactively support the academic, social, and emotional transition needs between 4th and 5th grade
  • Act as lead communicator with outside treatment providers and parents regarding coordination of care
  • Provide short-term counseling and group work for individual community members
  • Serve as a member of the Wellness Team

Middle School Responsibilities (Grades 5-6, 85 students)

  • Attend MS Student Support Meetings
  • Work collaboratively with MS academic support coordinator regarding student needs and evaluation recommendations
  • Actively engage with the school community to promote social, emotional, educational and mental health awareness through classroom visitation, teaching, staff professional development, and provide student programming, support groups, and parent programs. This includes working directly with classes, small groups, and individuals both proactively and reactively on issues of social-emotional well-being
  • Meet with grade level teachers as needed; meet with and make recommendations to division heads; and coordinate with the 7th through 12th grade counselor when appropriate on school-wide initiatives
  • Teach SEL workshop classes in 5th grade and 6th grades
  • Act as lead communicator with outside treatment providers and parents regarding coordination of care
  • Provide short-term counseling and group work for individual community members
  • Serve as a member of the Wellness Team
