The Park School seeks a half time (benefits eligible) String Ensemble/Music Teacher beginning in the 2021-22 academic year. The string ensemble/music teacher is a member of the school’s Music department and reports to both the Lower and Upper Division Heads, working within the 10-month academic calendar. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching a variety of string instruments to beginning through advanced students in grades 4-8. They will have comfort with and experience in arranging music for groups of students with varying levels of ability, and are skilled in utilizing interactive, creative and inspirational teaching techniques, assessments, and technology in the classroom. The string ensemble music teacher will be a collaborative team member who is self-directed, well-organized; has a good sense of humor; and a passion for teaching music to elementary and middle school-aged children.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Teach small group and ensemble instrumental music classes for students in 4th-8th grade
  • Teach electives in the Upper Division
  • Collaborate and plan with colleagues and the head of the Music Department to develop curriculum and present performances throughout the school year
  • Facilitate cross curricular collaborations inter and intra divisionally
  • Oversee and steward the school’s collection of musical instruments and equipment
  • Prepare students for formal informances and performances
  • Assess student growth and contribute to written narrative evaluations describing students’ progress in music
  • Prepare documentation of curriculum and course objectives
  • Participate in faculty meetings and committee work
  • Participate in professional development activities, including faculty in-service and curriculum planning days
  • Communicate with parents as needed and periodically contribute to newsletters with updates about music
  • Attend contracted school functions (e.g., back to school night)
  • Adhere to COVID-19 protocols
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Arts in music/music education required
  • A skilled musician and experienced performer well-versed in a variety of musical styles and cultures
  • Background in teaching string instruments to preadolescent and adolescent students
  • Background in teaching general music
  • Experience in developing curriculum and building an integrated music program
  • Experience with student-centered and progressive teaching methods preferred
  • Proficiency with incorporating technology into the classroom
  • Professional dedication to progressive education
  • Demonstrated experience working in a culturally diverse community and commitment to DEI and antiracism
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet and adhere to multiple deadlines
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication
