Music Department Assistant – Part-Time Immediate Opening

Walnut Hill School for the Arts has an immediate opening for a part-time (20 hours per week during the 10-month academic year) Music Department Assistant for the remainder of the school year and returning in the Fall.

The Music Department Assistant provides administrative and operational support to the Director of Music and the faculty of the Music Department. This position also acts as a main point of contact for music students throughout the academic year. The Music Department Assistant reports to the Director of Music.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing administrative/clerical support for Music Department programming;

  • Managing Music Department room schedule, including practice room facilities; providing adult supervision in Music spaces as needed;

  • Organizing off-campus private lesson, rehearsal, and concert transportation needs;

  • Supporting piano maintenance schedule;

  • Managing work-order system for facilities maintenance and event set-up;

  • Supporting payroll for part-time faculty and student workers;

  • Maintaining attendance for some Music Department programming;

  • Managing student Bus Captain program;

  • Supporting departmental concerts and recitals, including scheduling and program production; and

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience preferred;

  • 2+ years of administrative experience, preferably in an academic setting;

  • Able to gracefully handle multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines;

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills;

  • Proactive, independent, and highly collaborative style;

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;

  • Knowledge of classical music and previous experience working in an educational or arts environment a plus;

  • Ability to work with, and respond effectively to, the needs of a wide range of community members;

  • Possess cultural competence in working with diverse populations and commitment to learning about and practicing anti-racist work;

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive community;

  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills;

  • Strong verbal, written, and computer skills; proficiency with Google applications and Microsoft Office; and

  • Share an educational and artistic vision that aligns with the core principles of Walnut Hill.

Physical Demands

Physical demands include dexterity tools and equipment and office machine and supply operation including but not limited to writing, using electronic devices, computer, phone, calculator, copy/fax machine, and printers. Stooping, bending, traveling to/from locations on campus, ascending/descending stairs, reaching and sitting or standing for extended periods of time are common.
