Full Time Middle and Upper School Visual Art Teacher
Brimmer and May, an independent, all gender Pre-K-12 day school located in Chestnut Hill, MA is currently seeking a full time Middle and Upper School Visual Art teacher with strong drawing and painting skills. The ideal candidate has experience teaching AP Studio Art, a solid understanding of project-based learning, and a command of a variety of media.
Responsibilities:
- Teach 5 courses each semester: 2 Middle School Visual Art Classes (6th & 7th Grade) as part of the MS Arts Team & 3 Upper School classes in drawing, painting, and AP Studio Art
- Maintain the safety, organization, and upkeep of 2 art studios, keeping work areas neat and supplies stored properly.
- Oversee inventory and purchase of supplies in consultation with Visual Arts colleagues.
- Display finished student work in consultation with Visual Arts colleagues.
- Submit student work to various art contests and exhibitions.
- Coordinate, order, and display student-created posters for arts events.
- Mentor students in the Creative Arts Diploma Program.
- Serve as an US advisor
- Perform other related duties as assigned including two Study Halls and break and lunch duties
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to teach methods and practices in contemporary drawing and painting.
- Advanced knowledge of digital art-making platforms, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Procreate for iPad.
- Ability to teach AP Studio Art.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Work Environment:
- This position requires light physical effort. It may include frequent lifting of up to ten pounds and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Some bending, stooping and/or lifting will be required.
Job Requirements
- BA required, advanced degree preferred. The ideal candidate has experience teaching in an academic setting and/or significant or varied professional experience. Dependability is expected. Flexibility, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor are essential. Attendance at the New Faculty Orientation session in late August is required.
