Position: Part-Time Middle School Science Long-Term Substitute (Grades 5–8)

Epstein Hillel School is seeking a dynamic and flexible part-time long-term substitute teacher for middle school science. The ideal candidate is passionate about science, skilled at engaging students, and committed to interdisciplinary, creative teaching.

Schedule:

  • Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 8:45 a.m.–2:10 p.m.
  • Each day includes four class periods.

Role Overview:
The substitute will deliver instruction across a variety of science topics using guided notes, slide presentations, and hands-on labs and activities. Some lab prep is required, though all materials are ready in the science lab. Most units conclude with projects or formal assessments; rubrics and tests are provided. Topics include: Concluding the science fair, Rocks and minerals, Ecology, Engineering, Force and motion, Plate tectonics, Body systems, Waves and Energy, and Water.

Current Student Projects:

  • 7th Grade: Students are completing a bridge-building project in January, with support from volunteers.
  • 5th Grade: Students are finalizing science fair projects, including compiling results, completing display boards, and presenting to upper school students.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging, academically rigorous lessons using varied instructional strategies.
  • Integrate technology effectively to enhance learning.
  • Assess student progress using a variety of assessments.
  • Communicate openly with parents through email, newsletters, and conferences.
  • Collaborate with the STEM team on school initiatives and events.
  • Support the mission, philosophy, and core values of EHS
  • Attend all required faculty meetings and school events

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, science, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of teaching experience with middle school students
  • Outstanding teaching ability and sensitivity to students’ social and emotional needs
  • Strong organizational skills and commitment to differentiated instruction
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills
  • References that reflect positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents

Salary:
Commensurate with experience and education.
