Position Summary

The Fessenden School seeks a full-time Middle School (Grades 5 and 6) and Upper School (Grades 7-9) Visual Arts Teacher. We seek a professional artist and educator who is passionate about the visual arts and will instill skills, creativity, and appreciation in their students. The teacher will be responsible for designing and implementing a dynamic and age-appropriate Studio Art curriculum including, but not limited to, drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Teach twice weekly 45-minute art classes to Middle and Upper School students 
  • Prepare and hang displays of student work in the Arts Wing hallways throughout the school year in collaboration with the Lower School Art teacher
  • Incorporate project based learning, educational technology, differentiated learning, social emotional learning, and cultural competency into lessons
  • Integrate racial literacy curriculum and actively teach and model inclusion, equity, and social justice
  • Exemplify the School’s mission and community principles, including honesty, respect and compassion 
  • Perform duties such as supervising drop off and dismissal, recess, lunch
  • Attend faculty meetings; typically on Mondays from 3:00pm to 4:15pm
  • Attend professional development
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Maintain current CPR/AED and first aid certification and child abuse prevention training
  • Other duties as assigned

Schedule

  • Orientation: August 22nd and 23rd
  • School Year: August 29th to June 13th
  • Monday to Friday 7:30 am – 4:30 pm

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or related subject
  • Two years of experience in instructing students in an academic program
  • Ability to develop and provide differentiated instruction to meet learning needs of a range of students
  • Enthusiasm and communication skills to engage boys and build meaningful relationships
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control a classroom
  • Ability to perform critical thinking, organization, prioritization and problem solving with minimal supervision
  • Ability to serve in a diverse community of colleagues, students and parents
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, justice, diversity and equity
  • A commitment to boys and boys’ education
  • Successful criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in education or related subject
  • Teaching certification
