Brimmer and May School, Chestnut Hill, MA

The Brimmer and May School, an all-gender day school in Chestnut Hill, MA, is seeking a full-time Middle and Upper School History teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The position includes teaching 9th grade history, two other History courses in the Middle or Upper Schools as well as serving as an Upper School advisor.

The ideal candidate will have a BA in History, the Humanities, Education, or a related field (a Master’s degree is strongly preferred), along with 3+ years of experience and a passion for working with middle school students, both inside and outside the classroom. Developing skills in writing, reading, critical thinking, and research, as well as higher order thinking skills, are essential components of this role. We seek an individual with a growth mindset who is proficient at integrating emerging technologies into their instruction, including the thoughtful use of artificial intelligence to enhance teaching and learning. The ideal candidate will be eager to explore how AI tools can support differentiated instruction, foster creativity, and enhance students’ research and analytical skills while maintaining a strong emphasis on the ethical and responsible use of these tools. The position also involves active participation in the school’s life beyond the classroom, including chaperoning field trips, attending school events, and fully engaging with the community.

A desire to collaborate with other Middle and Upper School faculty is also important. The candidate should provide student-centered learning opportunities, work toward implementing a culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy aligned with the School’s DEI goals and initiatives and possess a collaborative spirit. Commitment to professional development and dedication to supporting the school’s mission are essential.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:
-Plan and teach three sections of 9th grade history and two additional history courses in the Middle or Upper Schools.
-Work collaboratively with the Middle and Upper School Humanities team and with other departments.
-Serve as an advisor to 6-8 students in the Upper School.
-Supervise two study halls a week, as well as break and lunch once a week.
-Support students’ transition into high school as a member of the core 9th grade team.
-Help foster a positive working and educational environment for students and colleagues and support the school’s mission, vision, and values.
-Work with students outside of classroom time as needed.
-Supervise field trips as needed, including participating in the School’s travel programs.
