The Governor’s Academy, the oldest boarding school in New England, inspires and engages inquisitive students in ninth through twelfth grade. Our 456-acre campus is located thirty miles north of Boston and five miles south of Newburyport, a classic New England coastal town. Govs has approximately 400 students and 200 employees.

POSITION SUMMARY

This part-time/temporary mathematics teaching position will have ongoing contact with and direct responsibility for students’ academic life on campus (in loco parentis) The successful candidate will be deeply invested in a student-centered pedagogy providing authentic, hands-on learning experiences, will have enthusiasm and appreciation for working with adolescents, will be a collaborative member of the teaching faculty, and will desire to deepen their teaching practice through innovative ideas and research-based best practices. This is a 3-month position covering a leave of absence.  

  • Potential courses include:
    • AP Statistics, Honors Precalculus, Honors Geometry, or Algebra II with Trigonometry. 
  • Responsibilities for coverage would include lesson planning, being available for extra help with students, writing student comments, and meeting with students’ families on family weekend. 
  • Potential ability and willingness to coach varsity football but not required.  
  • Must show a demonstrated interest in social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion work and have experience creating equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist spaces in their teaching.

QUALIFICATIONS

B.S. Mathematics is preferred, masters level preferred; Mathematics teaching experience preferred.  Must be able to work collegially; be committed to working in a diverse community; have experience working and communicating with diverse populations; enjoy working with young people in a boarding school environment; and must have a valid driver’s license.

This position is under the direction of the Mathematics Department Chair.  This is a part-time, temporary position and is not eligible for benefits.
