The Bement School is a kindergarten through grade nine coeducational day and boarding school in historic Deerfield, Massachusetts. Bement serves a locally and globally diverse student body of day students from the CT River Valley, southern Vermont, and New Hampshire, as well as boarding students from many different international locations and US states, and has long provided a rigorous yet warm learning environment for our students. Bement is seeking a full-time math and science teacher for grades 6-9 for the 2023-2024 school year.

Description: The Upper School Math and Science Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum, teaching and supervising children in groups and individually, and helping children grow intellectually, socially, and mentally. The upper school teacher communicates regularly with parents on their child’s progress. Depending on staffing needs and the successful candidate’s background and experience, the position will include 1-3 sections of middle school math and/or 1-2 sections of middle school science.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials to facilitate active learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and assessments that follow established school procedures.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Maintain discipline per the rules and disciplinary systems of Bement.
  • Provide students with appropriate and timely feedback on their work.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
  • Participate in department, school, and parent meetings. Communicate necessary
  • information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Develop and enrich professional skills and knowledge by attending seminars, etc.

Position Requirements:


  • 3- 5 years of prior teaching experience preferred.


  • Minimum B.A/B.S degree from an accredited institution.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Comfort teaching math topics ranging from Pre-Algebra to Algebra II
  • Strong content knowledge in earth science, biology, and chemistry

 Skills & Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices and legal education guidelines.
  • An understanding of the developmental needs of primary and middle-level students
  • Proficient at using technology, including the Google Suite of applications. Ability to integrate technology into the students’ learning experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously and work well under time constraints.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships.
