Salary Range: $60,000-$85,000

The Cambridge School of Weston seeks a Mandarin Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The Mandarin Teacher will be a member of the Language Department and report directly to the Language Department Chair. The position requires fluency in Mandarin, experience teaching, and a strong commitment to immersive instruction that supports learner autonomy, competence, and sustained engagement. A successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills; will value progressive, student-centered education; will demonstrate an ability to make strong connections with students; will be passionate about teaching creative students with a variety of learning styles in a boarding and day school environment; and will have experience differentiating instruction and engaging students through multiple learning modalities. Applicants should be well-versed in culturally responsive teaching practices and be interested in further developing their cultural competencies and equity literacy skills. Essential Functions of this Position Include:

  • Teach up to 12 blocks over the school year; there are six modules, meaning there will be two courses per module. Classes meet 4-5 days a week for 90 minutes. Specific courses will include all levels of Mandarin.
  • Travel with Mandarin students on the module abroad program, serving as both instructor and chaperone to facilitate sustained target-language use and meaningful intercultural learning.
  • Offer Mandarin-speaking support to the community as needed.
  • Support the school at specific admissions events and orientations.
  • Contribute to the school community through professional development and committee work equivalent to a teaching block, supporting collaborative practice and sustained engagement.
  • Plan, develop, and execute lessons that demonstrate innovation, creativity, and a passion for the craft of teaching, while employing purposeful instructional approaches that foster learner autonomy, competence, and long-term language development.
  • Evaluate each student’s ability to meet course standards in Mandarin knowledge and skills. Document and communicate academic progress to students, advisors, and guardians.
  • Participate in weekly departmental meetings prepared to discuss student progress, instructional practice, and curriculum development in ways that support learner autonomy, competence, and engagement. Assist with departmental representation at school outreach events.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and interest to learn, share, and apply effective pedagogical practices while developing curricular expertise that supports learner autonomy, competence, and language growth.
  • Stay informed about current research and practices in language education, and engage colleagues in professional dialogue to advance instructional approaches that foster increased student agency, confidence, and sustained use of the target language.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • B.A. in Chinese language or teaching Chinese as a second language required
  • M.A. in Chinese language or teaching Chinese as a second language preferred
  • M.A. in a related field with experience teaching within a specific discipline will be considered
  • Experience teaching Chinese language at the secondary school level preferred
  • Willingness to be responsive and flexible with pedagogy for our diverse student-learning population
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to effective communication and collaboration across and within departments
  • Ability and interest in making strong connections with students and to work within a department
  • Commitment to the values of progressive, student-centered education

All Faculty at The Cambridge School of Weston also:

  • Advise up to ten students.
  • Participate in our PACE curriculum. PACE: Promoting Awareness and Community Engagement is a program designed to ensure that all students develop self-awareness, healthy living habits, and a sense of belonging, cultivating skills to create a more just and sustainable world. Classes meet once per week and are graded on a pass/fail basis.
  • Participate in up to two alliance/affinity groups, student clubs, or committees.
  • Chaperone two weekend activities each year to support our student life programming.
  • Candidates who express interest in working within our residential community preferred (housing provided).
  • Offer two blocks of “D Block,” our after-school activities, enrichment, and athletics program. Preference is given to those willing and able to support team sports, especially soccer, field hockey, basketball, ultimate frisbee, baseball, and tennis.
