Job Summary:
The Lower School Music Teacher develops and implements a robust and engaging music program for students in PreK to Grade 4. A strong candidate will have experience working with young children, have training in Orrf or Kodaly, and be able to work collaboratively with their colleagues. Experience teaching strings or band is desirable, as we hope to build out our instrumental program. The Lower School Music Teacher is a member of the Arts Department, which includes music, theater arts, visual arts, and innovation.

Key Objectives:
- Plan, organize, implement, and supervise a developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive PreK through Grade 4 general music program in coordination with other faculty and in accordance with the Shore curriculum.
- Develop positive relationships with children.
- Prepare students for several large choral performances and assemblies.
- Coordinate/facilitate four Talent Shows each year
- Advise parents on a variety of music issues and questions.
- Develop daily lesson plans.
- Be cognizant of the developmental needs and various learning styles of children.
- Organize and maintain a healthy, safe, and multicultural learning environment using appropriate supplies and equipment.
- Maintain verbal and written communication with teachers and parents.
- Participate in pertinent department, division, and all-employee meetings.
- Perform necessary duties and implement schedules in cooperation with other faculty members.
- Plan for professional development, keeping abreast of current research and practices in Elementary Music Education, child development, and equity and justice issues.
- Maintain necessary records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in music education required; Masters preferred
- Experience with early childhood and elementary education
- Ability to play piano and/or guitar
- Orff or Kodaly experience or certification preferred
- Experience or interest in teaching strings or band in a classroom setting
- Knowledge of current curricular and instructional practice
- Experience with diversity work; including equity and justice issues
- Knowledge of relevant technology applications
- Ability to communicate well orally and in writing
Salary Range: $60,000 – $100,000 – This salary represents the expected annual salary range for this position. Ultimately, in determining compensation, we’ll consider your education level, experience, and other job-related factors.
