Lower School Learning Specialist, Grades 3-6 (AY24-25)

Reports to: Director of Student Support Services and Director of the Lower School
BB&N is seeking a full-time Lower School Learning Specialist. The Learning specialist is part of the Lower School Support Services Department. It includes collaborating with the Grade 3 – 6 homeroom teachers to support students within those grades as well as collaborating with other grade-level reading, math, and learning specialists. Responsibilities include working with teachers to support best practices to improve student learning, supporting student assessment, teaching individual or small groups when necessary, documenting student progress and needs, and conferencing with students regarding their reading, writing, and ELA skills.
In addition, the LS Learning Specialist’s responsibilities include:
Supporting skills in and out of the classroom in study skills, organization, and as needed in other areas of the curriculum
Consulting with teachers about supporting a developmental range of students in the classroom as well as making recommendations for possible interventions
Writing Learning Profiles and support plans and communicating with the grade team
Reporting student progress to parents and teachers
Writing student progress reports
Covering any other teaching duties aligned with the Learning Specialist position at the Lower School campus.
Engaging in community and school-based engagement (such as faculty meetings, leading/co-leading Affinity Lunch, etc).
Skills and Competencies:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of two years of experience as a Learning Specialist. A Master’s degree in Special Education or a comparable field is preferred.

Capacity to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
Excellent writing skills
Desire and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

Salary: $67,000.00 – $97,400.00
BB&N offers competitive salaries and benefits and employs equitable and consistent compensation practices. Our compensation strategy prioritizes equity of pay for faculty with similar years of teaching and other related experience. Starting salaries for the 2023-2024 school year typically range from a starting salary of $67,000 to the median 20 year teaching experience salary of $97,400. Both of these salaries are exclusive of additional compensation granted to faculty with relevant advanced degrees. The starting salary for any hired candidate is based on experience within salary bands.
Compensation for full-time employees includes a 403(b) plan with up to a 10% match of salary and other competitive benefits offerings. Benefits offered to eligible employees include health & dental insurance; commuter benefits; long-term disability insurance, and more.
