Job Summary:

BB&N is seeking a full-time Lower School Learning Specialist from the end of February 2023 through May 2023. This position is part of the Lower School Support Services Department and includes collaborating with the Beginner, Kindergarten, and Grade 6 homeroom teachers to support students within those grades as well as collaborating with other grade-level reading and learning specialists. Responsibilities include working with teachers to support best practices to improve student learning, supporting student assessment, teaching individual or small groups when necessary, documenting student progress and needs, and conferencing with students regarding their reading, writing, and ELA skills.

In addition, the LS Learning Specialist’s responsibilities include:

  • Supporting skills in and out of the classroom in study skills, organization, and as needed in other areas of the curriculum
  • Consulting with teachers about supporting a developmental range of students in the classroom as well as making recommendations for possible interventions
  • Writing Learning Profiles and support plans and communicating with the grade team
  • Reporting student progress to parents and teachers
  • Writing student progress reports
  • Covering any other teaching duties aligned with the Learning Specialist position at the Lower School campus.
  • Engaging in community and school-based engagement (such as faculty meetings, leading/co-leading Affinity Lunch, etc).

Skills & Competencies:

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of two years of teaching experience. A Master’s degree in Special Education or a comparable field is preferred.
