We are seeking an experienced lower school teacher who seeks to share their love of learning with Class 1 boys. You are an energetic and productive self-starter with excellent organizational and relationship building skills and are adept at guiding students in the classroom and supporting them in their extracurricular pursuits.
We are seeking candidates with a solid understanding of early childhood and/or elementary education and development, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and experience working with a range of abilities and teaching foundational reading skills, strategies, and fluency.
To be successful in this role, you must be able to:
  • Foster a culture of high expectations for students in a supportive, academically rigorous learning environment
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans that align with School standards
  • Support the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs of each child
  • Collaborate with peer faculty to develop curriculum, projects, and assessments (e.g., text-based, project-based, web-based, cooperative learning, discussion groups, field trips, homework, etc.)
  • Provide instruction across all subjects including math, reading, social studies, English, spelling, and vocabulary and collaborate with interdisciplinary faculty (science, fine and performing arts, computers, STEM, and athletics)
  • Coordinate timely and ongoing communication and feedback to faculty and parents
  • Identify unique student needs and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of every child; collaborate with teachers and academic support team to effectively address a variety of learners
  • Create a learning environment that promotes character, respect, and goodwill
  • Demonstrate a commitment to training and professional development to remain current with educational standards, emerging technology, classroom resources, and pedagogy
  • Actively participate in faculty meetings, in-service programs, and training workshops
  • Support an inclusive school community that promotes cultural competence, diversity, and respect for all
  • Perform other duties, as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and experience teaching foundational reading skills is required; advanced degree and reading training is preferred
  • At least three years of full-time classroom experience teaching elementary-aged students
  • Experience planning, organizing, developing, and conducting comprehensive lesson plans and instruction
  • Working knowledge of teaching principles and theories, behavior management, conflict resolution strategies
  • Effective interpersonal, time management, and communication skills (oral, written, non-verbal)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and parents
  • Understanding of the academic, social, and behavioral attributes of lower school students
  • Create and contribute to an engaging and inclusive learning environment and workplace
  • Engage in ongoing continued education and professional development
  • Ability to be flexible, effectively manage stress, and adapt to changing work priorities and assignments
