Other major campus enhancements have included the creation of flexible, multi-functional learning spaces in the areas of performing arts, athletics, and technology.

Position Summary
Bancroft School is seeking a full-time Long-Term Kindergarten Substitute Teacher, beginning in March 2024, to join our dynamic team of educators for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year. Ideal candidates for this role are organized, creative, and effective communicators. This position will work closely with the Kindergarten team in the care and instruction of young students as well as cultivate positive relationships with families. They will differentiate the literacy and math curricula for students and implement all aspects of the daily program. Candidates should feel an alignment with Bancroft School’s mission and values and Learning Laboratory Method, a project-based approach to teaching and learning. Experience with 5 and 6 year old students and a bachelor’s degree in education are preferred.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Deliver an inquiry-based curriculum that aligns with early childhood educational approaches and focuses on age-appropriate learning activities.
  • Create a safe, organized, and engaging classroom environment that encourages active participation and cooperation among children.
  • Deliver lessons and activities that promote the development of essential skills, including language and literacy, mathematics, and social skills.
  • Integrate play-based learning, art, music, and other creative activities into the curriculum to promote holistic development.
  • Identify and address the unique needs of each child, adapting teaching strategies and materials accordingly.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments to track students’ progress, adjust instruction as needed, and communicate progress to parents or guardians.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents or guardians, providing updates on their child’s development and addressing concerns or questions.
  • Implement positive behavior management techniques and encourage appropriate social interactions.
  • Ensure student safety and well-being by following health and safety guidelines, including sanitation and emergency procedures, with support from Bancroft Health Services.
  • Work closely with other early childhood educators, support staff, and administrators to create a cohesive educational environment.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends and research in early childhood education through ongoing training and professional development.
  • Maintain accurate records of student’s progress, attendance, and any incidents and prepare reports as required.
  • Working hours are 7:30-3:30pm Monday-Friday. Some afternoon meetings occur monthly.


  • A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field is required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with 5-6 year olds in a classroom setting.
  • Multiple years of experience is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in working with young children and their families.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with children.
