Physical Education Teacher (K-5)
Faculty / Part-Time – one weekday
St. Stephen’s Armenian Elementary School is seeking a Physical Education Instructor. The St. Stephen’s Armenian Elementary School located in Watertown, Mass, is a child-centered American-Armenian Institution committed to academic excellence. The school is accredited by the Association of Independent Schools in New England (AISNE).
Responsibilities
- Design, plan, and implement student-centered lessons that demonstrate a deep understanding of the academic discipline, curriculum, instruction, child development, and best practices, aligned with the goals and mission of SSAES.
- Establish and implement expectations for student safety and conduct; and procedures and routines, consistent with School policies.
- Assess student performance and engagement, including academics, behavior, and social-emotional needs, while communicating directly with students, colleagues, and families both formally and informally when necessary.
- Oversee and serve as the primary contact between home and school as an advisor to a small group of students.
- Collaborate with all SSAES employees as appropriate.
- Participate in and contribute to an adult learning community by engaging in meetings, discussions, committees, task forces, and professional development.
- Complete administrative tasks and coverage duties as assigned (student supervision, attendance, reporting, documenting curriculum, report card grades, etc.)
- Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice and performance.
- Ensure that respect for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belong, social-emotional learning, and academic excellence are emphasized as core values of the School
- Participate in school community activities.
- Meet expectations as defined by the SSAES Employee Handbook.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree required in Physical Education preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults.
- Strong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments and other school-related documents.
- High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in teaching and learning & experience in working in a culturally diverse community.
- Demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development and innovative practices that support student growth.
- Ability to think independently and collaborate in a team environment.
- Skill in differentiating instruction.
- Maintain focus and adaptability in an energetic and, at times, loud environment.
- Effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflict with students and families in a timely manner.
- Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the School, such as RenWeb or GoogleClassroom.
Physical Requirements:
- The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 45 minute periods of time.
- The ability to regularly walk on and travel across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
- The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency.
- The ability to regularly stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down in order to support students.
- The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment.
