Schechter Boston is currently hiring Jewish Studies teacher for grades 4-8. You will play a critical role in the spiritual and character development of our older students.

 

What you will do

Both independently and in collaboration with the Jewish Studies team, you will:

Design, plan and implement learning experiences  From text-focused Jewish Studies lessons to units that motivate students to engage in active, interpretive learning experiences, your creativity and passion for Jewish life and learning will shine in your lessons. Your lessons will include plans for differentiated instruction, with activities and assessments that meet the needs of every student.

Build relationships with all students  Be an inspiring dugma ishit (role model) for students, modeling a passionate, joyful, and deep relationship to Jewish life and learning. There is also the potential opportunity to play a rabbinic role in the school including, serving the spiritual, religious and pastoral needs of our broader community.

Create a safe environment  Your well-structured classroom environment will help all students feel safe – physically, emotionally, and academically – and ready to learn.

Participate in ongoing cycles of reflection  Both independently and in collaboration with colleagues, we believe that ongoing reflection is key to our own ongoing learning.

 

Who you are:

  • You are dynamic and engaging; someone who can inspire students and help steer the school in an engaging and inspiring Jewish direction.
  • You are passionate about creating an inspiring and inclusive learning environment.
  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of two years experience teaching students, preferably in a middle school setting.
  • You have some experience studying classical Jewish texts (Tanakh, Talmud) in their original languages.
  • You have exemplary teaching skills.

 

Details

Location: Schechter Boston is located in Newton, Massachusetts.

Hours:  The hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Salary:  The salary range for this position is $54,000 – $93,000/year, depending on experience.
