Human Resources Manager

Position Overview: Kents Hill School’s Human Resources Manager serves as a chief advisor to the Head of School and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), helping the organization achieve its goals and ambitions through operational excellence, workforce planning, strategic HR initiatives, and the modernization and continuous improvement of functional HR infrastructure. The role oversees core functions including benefits administration, employee relations, compensation strategy, business process optimization, leave management, and policy adherence and development. This is a 12-month, exempt role and reports to the CFO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all HR functions of the school including but not limited to: payroll and benefits administration, compensation strategy, hiring and onboarding, labor and legal compliance, and policy and procedure development.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to Head of School and CFO on all HR-related matters, including hiring, onboarding, training, departure, and termination.
- Serve as the organization’s primary point of contact for all HR-specific employee questions, claims support, issues and conflict resolution practices, and investigations from origin to conclusion.
- Manage all administration and trainings for FMLA, ADA, ERISA, IRS, HIPPA, I-9, W-4, sexual harassment prevention, workers’ compensation, privacy, short- and long-term disability, unemployment, and other relevant programs.
- Partner with the Dean of Faculty to develop, implement, and continuously improve strategies for talent acquisition, employee experience and satisfaction, and organizational culture.
- Maintain and update job descriptions for all employees, including conducting periodic job description audits and classifying employees as appropriate under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Perform an annual review and update of the Employee Handbook and make recommendations to the Head of School and Head’s Advisory Council on best practices regarding HR policies, procedures, benefits, etc.
- Oversee and administer annual employee work agreements in coordination with the CFO and Dean of Faculty.
- Maintain all personnel records and ensure ongoing organizational compliance (including annual/as-needed trainings) with all pertinent federal and state laws and regulations.
- Assist with external filings and audits as needed, including but not limited to: 403(b), operating audit, government filings and reporting, and surveys.
- Serve on the Student Activities Duties Team 4 weekends per year.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Head of School or CFO.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Human R SHRM certification preferred.
- Superior interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, and unwavering commitment to confidentiality and privacy.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a group, meet strict deadlines, and manage multiple high-priority projects and tasks.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable federal and state personnel laws and regulations.
- Proficient with technology and online platforms, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
