St. John’s Prep is an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12. Founded on the Xaverian values of compassion, humility, simplicity, trust, and zeal, we educate students to be, do, and stand for good in the world. Position Overview and Responsibilities

St. John’s Prep seeks a part-time Mathematics teacher to teach two sections for grades 9-12. The Mathematics Department offers a program that allows students “to welcome new challenges, question and justify their conjectures and solutions, test the reasonableness of those solutions, develop facility with and understanding of mathematical operations and procedures, and use them appropriately to make sense of the world.” (St. John’s Prep website). In addition to classroom teaching responsibilities, St. John’s encourages all members of the faculty to be involved in the life of the school beyond the classroom. The school offers a wide range of co-curricular, intramural and interscholastic programs.

 

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of teaching Mathematics at the high school level.
  • A bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in Mathematics or related field.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diversity of learning styles and learners.

 

Physical Requirements: (with or without accommodations):

  • Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
  • Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person, on the telephone, or on video calls.
  • Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision.
