Shady Hill School, Cambridge, MA

Leave Replacement December 2022-January 2022

Basic Purpose: Shady Hill is looking for a potential and temporary leave replacement for up to 6-8 weeks. Coverage would begin the week of December 6th through December 22nd and then resume after the Winter Break beginning on January 4th. End time will be TBD.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Teach the year- long Central Subject, “Whales and Whaling”
  • Monitor the social, emotional and academic lives of early adolescent students
  • Communicate about student progress, write reports, hold parent conferences, and meet with administrators to support the needs of individuals
  • Work collaboratively with grade level team and other members of the Central Subject department to shape and refine the curriculum
  • Serve as a full community member by attending weekly faculty meetings, sitting on committees, participating in admissions activities, and covering duties and other routine faculty responsibilities
  • Engage in professional development to enhance inclusive teaching and leadership practices. The school offers extensive professional development opportunities, including faculty summer study, travel grants, and yearly trips to the People of Color Conference for BIPOC employees


  • Masters degree or equivalent preferred
  • Prior middle school teaching experience, deep understanding of middle school development
  • Strong background in middle school curriculum design, including a project-based approach
  • Familiarity with an integrated, thematic studies approach
  • Communicates effectively
  • Creates an inclusive classroom
  • Employs multicultural and anti-bias teaching strategies that reflect multiple perspectives
  • Uses multicultural materials and resources
