Job Summary:

Supports the fundamental educational mission of the school by teaching Grade 5 core subjects such as Mathematics, Language Arts, and Social Studies as well as additional subjects and/or skills to students

Key Objectives:

  • Plan, organize, implement, and supervise a developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive elementary program
  • Provide appropriate differentiation to support individual learners in the classroom
  • Mentor a Teaching Assistant, providing supervision and training
  • Work collaboratively with other faculty and in accordance with the Shore curriculum
  • Develop positive relationships with children and their families
  • Develop daily lesson plans
  • Assess the development and needs of individual children on a regular basis and communicate progress to parents and the Head of Lower School
  • Organize and maintain a healthy, safe, and inclusive learning environment
  • Maintain verbal and written communication with families on a regular basis
  • Maintain expectations in the classroom as well as monitor and enforce the school’s Community Code
  • Envision, coordinate, and supervise class field trips
  • Write narrative reports about individual students two times each year (December, June) and conduct family conferences three times each year (October, February, June)
  • Participate in pertinent department, division, and all-employee meetings
  • Perform necessary duties and implement schedules in collaboration with other faculty members
  • Participate in professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops for the purpose of professional development
  • Keep abreast of current research and practices in elementary education, child development, and equity and justice issues
  • Maintain necessary records and documentation about student behavior and progress
  • Counsel and advise students on social and academic concerns
  • Perform related duties such as supervising and/or sponsoring one or more student activities or student organizations
  • Provide input to the Head of Lower School on the evaluation of the teaching assistant(s) at the grade level
  • Attend and support special events, such as admissions and advancement, to promote and support Shore.

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year college or university
  • Experience with elementary education
  • Ability to effectively listen, respond, and present information to students, parents, school employees, and the general public
  • Ability to project a positive and professional image at all times
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Exhibits strong organizational skills, demonstrated innovative thinking, and takes initiative
  • Has knowledge of current curricular and instructional practice
  • Has knowledge of and ability to use technology in support of teaching

 

Salary Range: $60,000 – $100,000 – This salary represents the expected annual salary range for this position. Ultimately, your education level, experience, and other job-related factors will be considered to determine compensation.
