Job Summary:

The Grade 2 Homeroom Teacher supports the fundamental educational mission of the school by stewarding the academic and socioemotional growth of a diverse group of students. They will be responsible for teaching Mathematics, Language Arts, and Social Studies, as well as additional subjects and skills that are determined by the Lower School division.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Apply culturally responsive pedagogy techniques to create a strong sense of safety, belonging, and learning engagement for every student
  • Plan, organize, implement, and supervise a developmentally appropriate elementary program
  • Provide appropriate differentiation to support individual learners in the classroom 
  • Develop positive relationships with children and their families through both verbal and written means
  • Collaborate with colleagues (including teaching assistants and special subject teachers) to learn, implement, and innovate the Shore curriculum
  • Assess the development and needs of individual children on a regular basis and communicate progress to caregivers and the Head of Lower School
  • Maintain necessary records and documentation about student behavior and progress 
  • Mentor teaching assistants by providing supervision, training, and evaluation
  • Engage in professional responsibilities that include collaborating effectively with colleagues, participating in pertinent employee meetings, performing necessary duties, and keeping abreast of current research and practices in elementary education, child development, and equity and inclusion

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong proficiency with culturally responsive pedagogy 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Strong organizational skills and innovative thinking
  • Knowledge of current curricular and instructional practices
  • Ability to use technology in support of teaching
  • Ability to effectively listen, respond, and present information to students, families, and colleagues
