St. Andrew’s School, Barrington, RI

St. Andrew’s School, a 6-PG independent school located in Barrington, RI, is seeking a qualified part-time teacher to teach two sections of French in the Upper School beginning in August 2022 and extending through June 2023. Classes to be taught include French Ab Initio. The qualified candidate will be responsible for providing instruction and managing classroom environments. They are also required to perform all duties assigned.  Classes typically run Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Previous International Baccalaureate experience preferred.

Responsibilities for the Part-Time Teacher

  • Work in concert with the World Languages department chair to create and Implement lessons.
  • Continue the teaching and learning process in the event the classes move to a virtual setting
  • Maintain a clean, respectful, and orderly classroom, and follow classroom and school procedures as directed by the school
  • Provide frequent, constructive, objective, and prompt feedback 
  • Collaborate with department members 
  • Communicate in a friendly and positive manner towards parents, students, and administrators
  • Keep records on attendance, accidents, and incidents
  • Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Ensure the safety of students at all times
  • Maintain all required responsibilities in a virtual classroom environment

Qualifications for the Part-Time Teacher

  • A Degree in French or Education is preferred
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred 
  • Experience teaching in an International Baccalaureate school preferred
  • Experience working with students with varying learning styles 
  • Ability to collaborate with other professionals 
  • Ability to communicate comfortably (written and orally) with students, parents/guardians, administrators, and others
  • Ability to follow and enforce rules, policies, and procedures
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Ability to pass a background check

Description of French Ab Initio Course

The French ab initio course is a language acquisition course for students with no prior experience of the target language, or for those students with very limited previous experience. Students develop the ability to communicate in the target language through the study of language, themes, and texts.
